this may be poor timing, but no one seems to be fucking understanding what these people were saying. i agree with Hayes, the word “hero” in reference to the fallen soldiers does invoke an idea of righteousness in a war that is clearly wrong. he wasn’t saying these dead soldiers weren’t heroes, he was suggesting the implication of the word “hero” may sway people to believe that certain wars are just.

indeed, those lost soldiers are heroes, but they are also victims. this is something to be thinking about today, along with those who gave their lives for their country. it’s the least we can do.
